The most comfortable house shoes

If you are looking for a pair of comfortable house shoes, you have come to the right place. At glerups, we produce footwear that keep your feet at their most comfortable at all times. With soft wool and a good, flexible sole these shoes are perfect for your leisure time.

The unique feeling of our original Danish wool slippers

In Denmark, we have a word that doesn’t easily translate into other languages. The word is “hygge” and the closest word in the English language is “cosy”, but it doesn’t fully describe what “hygge” truly means. In Denmark, it is a state of mind, where you feel warm, comfortable and safe. It’s a feeling that can occur in almost any setting, from having a laugh in the breakroom at work with coworkers, to sharing a cup of coffee with a good friend. We want this feeling to be shared by people everywhere and a way of doing this is through our footwear.

glerups comfortable house shoes

With glerups comfortable house shoes, you can truly experience peak “hygge”. These shoes are made in adherence to the traditional craftsmanship and with a wool blend that is quite amazing, meaning you get to take your “hygge” with you, whether you wear the shoes at home, at school or at work. They are a part of Danish design tradition that has three main pillars – the product must be simple, functional and elegant. glerups fit into this perfectly. Our footwear is simple, house shoes without a whole lot of extra going on, other than an enormous level of comfort for your feet. They are functional, as they can be used in different settings and there are two different sole types to choose from, leather for indoor usage and natural rubber soles for outdoor usage. So whether you are the type to spend your leisure time inside with a warm cup of coffee or outside in the garden, we got the shoe for you.

Lastly, elegance – we believe our footwear to have a subtle elegance to them, in their discrete appearance and the neutral colours they come in. The colours are inspired by Nordic nature and make them fit easily into any wardrobe or style.

Our wool blend is the key to comfort

Having refined our footwear and the materials we use for them through many years, we have landed on a wool blend packed with natural benefits. This wool blend consists of wool from Danish Gotland sheep and wool from New Zealand. One of the best things about this mix is its ability to keep your feet comfortable no matter the outer circumstances. This wool blend has the ability to keep your feet warm, when it’s cold and keeps them cool on warm days. The wool absorbs excess heat and moisture, so you feel comfortable, even when wearing them for longer periods of time. Even if you struggle with sweaty feet and perhaps also the odour that can occur as a result of that, you don’t have to worry about it when wearing a pair of glerups house shoes, as the wool also absorbs any odour.

Both odour and excess moisture is released when you let the shoes rest for a bit, ideally outside in the fresh air. This makes your shoes feel as good as new, leading us to another benefit of these shoes. They aren’t meant to last just a season, but are easily maintained to last longer. For more information on how to do this, read here.

Lastly, it is worth mentioning that the wool itself has a molecular structure that resembles that of human skin, which also adds to the natural benefits. This means that your skin doesn’t get irritated, even when you wear them for a long time. This also means that they can be worn by people with sensitive skin or children for that matter. We always recommend buying glerups footwear for kids a size bigger than they usually wear, so the tiny feet have room to grow.

How a thoughtful gift turned into a worldwide company

The story of how glerups started reads like something out of a fairytale. Nanny Glerup took a class in making things out of felted wool and decided that her first creation should be a gift for her husband, Ove. She made him a pair of slipper boots and Ove was thrilled. He loved this gift so much and started wearing the boots everywhere he went. This made friends and neighbours curious and Nanny started receiving requests for footwear from the people around them. Shortly after, they purchased a small farm, where there would be room for Nanny to have a real workshop for making footwear and Ove purchased some sheep, so they would have their own supply of wool. Nanny started going to conferences for Danish amateur designers and things started taking off. She was busier than ever, when an order for 200 pairs of childrens boots landed – and she, much to her dismay, had to recline as it simply wouldn’t be possible to make them on time. At this point she could make about two pairs of footwear a day. So she decided to expand and the orders were still coming, helping glerups to rise.

Today, glerups ship footwear all over the world and the old farm is now headquarters in Denmark. We continue to grow and develop products, which is also seen on the website, where our newest member of glerups, The Langdal has entered the scene. It’s a more traditional sneaker type of shoe with laces and otherwise it’s made like other glerups footwear for maximum comfort in style. Great for keeping a casual and cool look, whether you are being social or just taking a trip downtown.
